2008 Promotion an der Universität Leipzig. 2005-2012 wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Ostasiatischen Institut (Japanologie) der Universität Leipzig. 2008/09 Postdoktorand am Modern East Asia Research Centre der Universität Leiden. 2012/13 Oberassistent am UFSP Asien und Europa der Universität Zürich. Seit September 2013 Lehrstuhl für Japanologie I an der Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg. Im Wintersemester 2015/16 Forschungsaufenthalt als Visiting Fellow am Internationalen Kolleg für Geisteswissenschaftliche Forschung „Schicksal, Freiheit und Prognose“. 2016 Habilitation in Zürich mit einer Arbeit zur Medien- und Medientheoriegeschichte in Japan; die Ernennung zum Privatdozenten an der Universität Zürich erfolgte im gleichen Jahr. Mitglied im Zentralinstitut für Regionenforschung an der FAU.

Wissenschaftsgeschichte (Kommunikations- und Medienwissenschaft), Kritische Medien- und Kulturtheorie in Japan, politische Öffentlichkeit und digitale Medien, moderne japanische Philosophie (insb. Kyōto-Schule).
